$15 million gift from Stu and Kim Lang to help kids with serious illnesses experience camp, raising their giving to over $70 million to date

Philanthropists Stu and Kim Lang have further cemented their reputation as transformative Canadian donors with their latest landmark gift: on August 13, 2025, they contributed $15 million to Campfire Circle, Ontario’s leading charity for children with serious illnesses.
This latest gift, the largest in the organization’s history, will enable the expansion of hospital-based programs across Ontario and fund the development of a new medically supported overnight camp in Prince Edward County, scheduled to open in 2030.
The initiative is central to Campfire Circle’s ambitious plan to triple the number of children it serves annually—reaching 10,000 kids by the end of the decade.
The Langs’ motivation is deeply personal.
“Once you find out about Campfire Circle and their camp programs, how could you not support them?” Kim Lang said, expressing pride in helping more children experience the “joy, connection, and healing power of camp.”
The new camp will feature outdoor adventures, such as canoe trips and ropes courses, as well as a state-of-the-art athletic centre, all backed by expert medical care, so that children battling cancer, heart disease, organ transplants, and similar challenges can safely rediscover the fun of childhood.
Stu Lang reflected on his memories: “It’s a blessing to help bring those same experiences to kids who’ve been through so much. We hope our gift empowers them to build confidence, discover resilience, and be kids again.”
This donation follows another significant philanthropic move earlier in June 2025, when—as reported earlier in Lifestyles Magazine/Meaningful Influence—the Langs gave $10 million to Lakehead University to establish a veterinary medicine facility, supporting a collaborative training program with the University of Guelph and addressing a critical shortage of veterinarians in Northern Ontario.
This represented the largest single donation in Lakehead’s history and reflects the Langs’ long-standing commitment to animal welfare.
The couple’s philanthropic legacy spans more than a decade and exceeds $70 million to date.
Key contributions include over $50 million to the University of Guelph—encompassing a $21 million gift to the business school, $11million to the Ontario Veterinary College, and $10.5 million for the football pavilion.
At Upper Canada College, Stu Lang’s $11 million gift in 2013 remains the largest in the school’s history, while Queen’s University, their alma mater, has also benefited from their generosity.
Their support extends further to community arts and Indigenous initiatives, including substantial donations to the Eden Mills Writers’ Festival.
The Langs focus their philanthropy on athletics, academics, and animal welfare—what they call the “Three As”—and frequently support organizations with personal significance.
While they are well-known for their headline-making donations, they also invest quietly in grassroots and local initiatives.
All their wealth has been pledged to charity as part of their estate plan, underlining a philanthropic philosophy rooted in creating lasting impacts across Canadian communities.
