$50 million new gift from philanthropist Tony Moiso for hospital expansion

Tony Moiso and Rancho Mission Viejo have donated a historic $50 million to Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, marking the most significant gift in the hospital foundation’s 33-year history.
This significant contribution will support a $712 million, seven-year expansion plan, which includes the construction of the Rancho Mission Viejo Family Tower.
The tower will open in 2030 and will feature a 100-bed facility equipped with intensive care units, advanced cardiology services, state-of-the-art surgical suites, and enhanced radiology services.
Additionally, the donation will help improve outpatient clinics in both Rancho Mission Viejo and San Clemente.
This donation highlights the enduring relationship between Rancho Mission Viejo and Providence Mission Hospital.
The hospital was built on land donated by Rancho Mission Viejo in 1969, demonstrating the company’s long-standing commitment to healthcare in the community.
Rancho Mission Viejo is owned and managed by the O’Neill/Moiso/Avery family, descendants of Irish immigrant Richard O’Neill Sr., who acquired the land in partnership with James Flood in 1882.
Today, Anthony R. (Tony) Moiso, Richard O’Neill’s grandson, serves as Chairman and CEO of Rancho Mission Viejo.
Under his leadership, the company continues to support local initiatives and preserve the region’s heritage while developing communities like Mission Viejo, Ladera Ranch, and Rancho Santa Margarita.
The $50 million gift reflects Rancho Mission Viejo’s dedication to enhancing healthcare services in the area and underscores Tony Moiso’s vision for community development and philanthropy.
This substantial investment in Providence Mission Hospital will significantly improve healthcare access and quality for residents in Orange County, aligning with the company’s mission to foster a thriving and healthy community.
