$4.6 billion new donation by Warren Buffett to Gates Foundation, organizations run by his three children

Berkshire Hathaway CEO Warren Buffett recently announced his annual philanthropic donations, giving away an additional $4.6 billion in Berkshire shares to five organizations, with the bulk going to the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

Mr. Buffett is the co-founder of The Giving Pledge.

This time, Mr. Buffett gave $3.6 billion to the Gates Foundation and a total of $1 billion to four charities run by his three children.

The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Trust got roughly 10.5 million shares.

The Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation, which is named in honor of his late wife, got 1.04 million shares.

The Sherwood Foundation, Howard G. Buffett Foundation, and NoVo Foundation, which are run by Buffett’s three children, each got 731,708 shares.

Buffett has given away more than $50 billion worth of Berkshire stock to the five foundations since beginning the annual gift program in 2006. 
 

He reiterated this week that he plans to give away more than 99% of his wealth to philanthropic organizations and causes.
