$25 million gift for stadium revitalization project from Anthony Misitano and family
One of the largest capital projects in college sports history just got a major financial boost following a historic donation to Penn State for the Beaver Stadium revitalization efforts.
The Beaver Stadium revitalization project has received a significant shot in the arm thanks to the financial gift of an alumni donor. Recently Penn State athletics announced that the Misitano family and PAM Health were donating $25 million to the renovation of the 64-year-old stadium.
The donation is the second-largest in the Nittany Lions athletic department history.
“We are so very grateful to the Misitano family and PAM Health for their generous gift to the Beaver Stadium Revitalization project,” athletic director Pat Kraft said in a statement released by the university. “The Misitano family has a long history with Penn State athletics and has been unbelievably supportive of a number of sports programs, and this tremendous [Beaver Stadium] Founders Gift is another example of their devotion to Penn State.”
Once the Beaver Stadium revitalization project is complete, the newly constructed west tower will be named to recognize the Misitano family’s gift. The tower will include a university welcome center, luxury suites, club seats, and expanded concourses with views of the football field, among other amenities.
The Misitano family has been Penn State football season ticket holders since 1978 and also maintains season tickets for men’s basketball and ice hockey. The family is a key donor for Nittany Lions football, as well as endowed scholarships for the women’s basketball, ice hockey, and field hockey programs.
“It is a true honor for our family to contribute to the Beaver Stadium revitalization project,” said Anthony Misitano, founder and CEO of PAM Health and a graduate of the classes of 1977 and 1981.
“As lifelong Penn Staters, we’ve had the privilege of building relationships with many coaches, student-athletes, and university leaders. As this project began to take shape, we recognized how important the revitalization of Penn State’s iconic landmark is to those people, the university, this Happy Valley community, and the state of Pennsylvania. This initiative is essential in maintaining Penn State’s status as one of the nation’s elite institutions, and we are proud to support it.”
In May, the Board of Trustees approved a $700 million renovation for the home of Penn State football, one of the largest capital expenditures in college sports history. The first phase of the project, approved at $70 million last spring, began this offseason.
