$20 million gift for museum renovation from Sue Sturm and family

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is set for a $20 million renovation, made possible by a record-breaking donation from the Denver-based Sturm Family Foundation led by Sue Sturm.

This landmark gift, the most significant private contribution in the museum’s history, will fund the East Wing Project, revitalizing the theater, lobby, and plaza.

The renovation will enhance accessibility, modernize facilities, and create a seamless connection between indoor and outdoor spaces.

Expanded educational programming will further enrich experiences for school groups and community initiatives.

The Sturm Family Foundation has long championed cultural, educational, and healthcare initiatives, strengthening public institutions and fostering community engagement.

Their philanthropy has played a pivotal role in shaping Denver’s civic landscape, reinforcing their commitment to enriching lives through education and the arts.

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science joins a wave of cultural institutions undergoing significant upgrades.

In 2021, the Denver Art Museum completed a $175 million renovation, funded through private donations and the Elevate Denver Bonds.

Construction on the East Wing Project begins in April 2025 and will be phased to minimize disruptions.

While the Infinity Theater will close from April to July for upgrades, the rest of the museum will remain open.

The project also includes a redesigned plaza featuring new landscaping, paving, and canopy structures to create a more inviting public space.

This significant investment ushers the museum into a new era of innovation and engagement, ensuring visitors enjoy world-class experiences for generations.
