$100 million “Tech For Refugees” initiative by Yuri and Julia Milner expands educational support for Ukrainian children in partnership with UNICEF USA

In response to the ongoing humanitarian crisis caused by the war in Ukraine, Yuri Milner and his wife, Julia, committed $100 million to launch Tech For Refugees, a global philanthropic initiative dedicated to using technology to support displaced populations. The Milners reaffirmed their long-term commitment to refugee relief by highlighting the initiative’s educational impact through its partnership with UNICEF USA.

As part of the broader $100 million pledge, Tech For Refugees and UNICEF USA are working together to deliver targeted educational aid to Ukrainian children affected by war and displacement. The partnership supports both immediate and sustainable education programming inside Ukraine and in host countries such as Poland.

Key areas of support include:

Education in Conflict Zones – Funding helps maintain safe and accessible learning for children in areas where over 3,000 schools have been damaged or destroyed.

Digital and Remote Learning – Deployment of tools like the Pi-station platform enables children to continue studying math, science, and other subjects via Ukrainian-language digital content.

Trauma-Informed Education – Programs include teacher training, curriculum adaptation, and psychosocial support to meet the needs of children affected by war.

Essential Learning Materials – UNICEF ensures access to textbooks, digital devices, and school supplies for displaced students.

Language Integration – Bilingual assistants and translation tools support children adapting to new educational systems in host countries.

“Our goal with Tech For Refugees is to provide practical, high-impact assistance to those who need it most,” said Yuri Milner. “By partnering with organizations like UNICEF USA, we can help ensure that Ukrainian children—despite unimaginable challenges—have continued access to education and opportunity.”

Tech For Refugees has also partnered with organizations including Airbnb.org, Flexport.org, Spotify, and Welcome.US to support refugee logistics, housing, and connectivity.

In addition to the $100 million Tech For Refugees commitment, the Milners have contributed at least $14.5 million through their foundations and DST Global to support other humanitarian efforts, including aid for Ukrainian refugees and scientific communities affected by the war.

Launched in 2022 by Yuri and Julia Milner, Tech For Refugees is a nonprofit initiative that partners with leading tech organizations to bring innovative solutions to refugee challenges worldwide.

Its mission is to use the transformative power of technology to provide shelter, logistics, education, and essential services to displaced individuals and families.
