$25 million new gift from Doris L. Bass family to support new pediatric campus

UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children’s Health have received a transformative $25 million gift from the Harry W. Bass, Jr. Foundation, announced by Foundation Chair Doris L. Bass, to support their new $5 billion joint pediatric campus in Dallas.
The gift, made through the Southwestern Medical Foundation, will be recognized with the naming of the Harry W. Bass, Jr. Foundation Lobby in the Specialty Center of the new campus, currently under construction across from UT Southwestern’s William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital and expected to open in 2031.
The state-of-the-art campus will be anchored by Moody Children’s Hospital, featuring two 12-story towers and one eight-story tower. It is set to expand hospital capacity in North Texas dramatically—one of the fastest-growing regions in the U.S.—by offering enhanced inpatient, surgical, and outpatient services.
The pediatric campus represents a collaborative effort between UT Southwestern and Children’s Health to advance innovation, research, and care, bringing new hope for children and families across the region.
“This remarkable gift demonstrates our commitment to elevating pediatric care in Dallas and underscores the Bass Foundation’s legacy of generational impact through philanthropy,” said Doris L. Bass on behalf of the Foundation. Michael Calhoun, the Foundation’s President, added, “We are proud to support UT Southwestern and Children’s Health in their vision for a healthier future for every child.”
Leaders from both institutions expressed deep appreciation. “With its extraordinary support, the Harry W. Bass, Jr. Foundation is helping pave the way for medical discoveries and compassionate healing that will benefit generations to come,” stated Dr. Daniel K. Podolsky, President of UT Southwestern. Christopher J. Durovich, President and CEO of Children’s Health, added, “Harry W. Bass, Jr. believed in the power of generosity to transform lives—this gift allows us to continue redefining pediatric care for North Texas and beyond.”
The Bass Foundation, recognized for its support of initiatives that strengthen educational, scientific, cultural, and civic institutions, has a rich tradition of advancing excellence in Texas. Its philanthropy, fueled in part by Harry W. Bass, Jr.’s legendary collection of rare U.S. gold coins, continues to make a profound mark on the state’s health and future.
The campus will serve as a hub for innovation, academic research, and advanced clinical training in pediatric medicine.
