$25 million latest Taylor family gift propels emergency care—another milestone in $1.9 billion of their multigenerational philanthropy

St. Luke’s Hospital of St. Louis, MO – announced a record-setting $25 million philanthropic commitment that will transform emergency care in the St. Louis region, with $20 million of the total pledged directly by the Taylor family.

The Crawford Taylor Foundation, founded by the late Enterprise Mobility founder Jack C. Taylor, has committed $15 million to the project, with an additional $5 million gift from other Taylor and Kindle family members.

The MacCarthy Foundation has also contributed $5 million.

This collective effort represents the boldest healthcare investment in the hospital’s nearly 160-year history.

The gift will fund the creation of a new, state-of-the-art Emergency Department designed to expand access, modernize patient care, and incorporate the latest medical technologies.

Hospital leaders say the project is already in planning and design stages, with the future facility envisioned as one that not only enhances treatment areas but also redefines the patient and family experience.

“This is a historic moment for St. Luke’s,” said Andrew Bagnall, President and CEO of St. Luke’s.

“The Taylor family’s generosity ensures that we can deliver emergency care at the highest level, with advanced resources, expanded capacity, and an environment that supports patients and their loved ones in their most critical moments.”

Jo Ann Taylor Kindle, President of the Crawford Taylor Foundation and daughter of Jack Taylor, highlighted the family’s deep roots in St. Louis and its commitment to sustaining healthcare excellence across generations.

“St. Luke’s has been part of our family’s story for decades. Our goal is to make sure patients across the region can count on world-class emergency care when they need it most,” she said.

“This gift reflects both our gratitude to this community and our belief in its future.”

Founded in 1866, St. Luke’s has long been recognized as a cornerstone of health and healing in the St. Louis region.

Board Chairman Norman L. Eaker said the scale and impact of the Taylor family’s support cannot be overstated.

“This transformational investment is a turning point for the hospital and the community we serve. The Taylor family’s leadership ensures a healthier, safer future for generations to come.”

The Taylors’ philanthropic involvement builds on a legacy of extraordinary civic giving that has touched nearly every major institution in St. Louis. Jack C. Taylor, a World War II veteran and pioneering businessman, personally gave more than $1 billion during his lifetime, helping stabilize cultural landmarks such as the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra, advancing scientific research at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, and supporting health and education initiatives across the region.

Today, through the Crawford Taylor Foundation and the Enterprise Holdings Foundation, the Taylor family continues to direct its resources toward healthcare, education, and community well-being, with more than $900 million in cumulative giving to date.

The new Emergency Department at St. Luke’s will stand as the latest expression of this multigenerational commitment.

By combining advanced medical capability with a focus on compassionate care, the project promises to redefine emergency services for the region, ensuring that St. Louis families have access to the highest standards of treatment for decades ahead.
