Don Lockton, principal of Lockton, Inc., has pledged $10 million to Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences to establish the Don Lockton Family Heart Center.
The new center will expand CSU’s capacity for advanced cardiac care in animals through renovations, new equipment, and additional clinical staff. The gift builds on Lockton’s earlier creation of the Chief Lockton Compassionate Care Fund, which has already underwritten more than 20 open-heart surgeries for pets whose families could not otherwise afford treatment.
Lockton’s philanthropy was inspired by personal experience: his Great Dane, Chief, survived a complex heart surgery at CSU in 2021. He also credits the legacy of his late father, Jack Lockton, whose quiet generosity more than two decades ago left a lasting impression.
“This is my way of honoring my dad and ensuring families never have to say goodbye to their pets just because they can’t afford care,” Lockton said.
With this transformative commitment, CSU aims to strengthen its standing as a global leader in veterinary cardiology, advancing care for companion animals and training the next generation of veterinary specialists.
