$10 million donation from David and Marion Mussafer to transform undergrad experience

Tulane University has received a $10 million gift from longtime supporters David and Marion Mussafer to launch a university-wide career readiness initiative that will transform the undergraduate experience and prepare students for success beyond graduation.

The David and Marion Mussafer Internship Initiative will ensure that every student in Newcomb-Tulane College has access to paid internships, mentorships, and real-world career experiences.

Through a centralized online portal, students will be able to discover and pursue professional opportunities while receiving personalized support, stipends, training, and ongoing career development.

“This is the perfect complement to Tulane’s interdisciplinary, holistic curriculum that emphasizes hands-on learning, discovery and personal growth,” said President Michael A. Fitts.

“The Mussafers’ extraordinary generosity enhances our goal of preparing Tulane graduates to become leaders who will make a positive impact on the world. We are deeply grateful for their commitment to our students and their belief in Tulane’s mission.”

The initiative will also leverage Tulane’s global alumni and family network to connect students with opportunities around the world.

According to the National Association of Colleges and Employers, students who complete paid internships are significantly more likely to receive job offers, earn higher starting salaries, and transition quickly into professional roles after graduation.

“This wonderful gift from David and Marion Mussafer will ensure that our extraordinary students have every opportunity to find their way into professional roles that best match their strengths and interests,” said Robin Forman, senior vice president for academic affairs and provost.

“By enhancing experiential learning, the Mussafers are amplifying the positive impact our graduates have on the world around us.”

David Mussafer, chairman and managing partner of Advent International and chair of Tulane’s Board of Trustees, and Marion Mussafer, owner of M Home Design Group and an active nonprofit leader, said their gift is meant to open new horizons for students.

“Tulane has shaped so much of who I am,” said David Mussafer. “This gift is about giving every student the chance to discover their potential and take bold first steps into their careers. Marion and I also hope Tulanians everywhere will join us in this vision and help broaden and sustain the network that can change students’ lives.”

The Mussafers’ support builds on their legacy at Tulane, which includes the creation of Mussafer Hall, the university’s hub for advising and career services, and the endowment of the chief innovation and entrepreneurship officer at the Tulane Innovation Institute.

They also serve on numerous university advisory councils and are members of the Paul Tulane Society.
