$15 million gift from Leonard Blavatnik and family to hospital raises their philanthropy to date over the billion-dollar mark

New York City-based NYU Langone Health has received a $15 million gift from the Blavatnik Family Foundation to advance biomedical research.

The donation will support cutting-edge investigations into gene regulation, antibiotic resistance, and cellular mechanisms influencing cancer and aging.

The research is led by Evgeny Nudler, PhD, the Julie Wilson Anderson Professor in the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Pharmacology at NYU Langone and an investigator with the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

“This kind of support allows us to attract and retain top talent — the most precious resource in our lab — and gives us the investigative freedom to drive discoveries that could transform people’s lives,” Dr. Nudler said.

The Blavatnik Family Foundation is a longtime champion of life sciences and innovation. It has previously supported major research initiatives at Mount Sinai in New York and Harvard Medical School in Boston, among other leading institutions.

The foundation, established by industrialist and philanthropist Sir Leonard Blavatnik, has committed well over $1 billion to charitable causes worldwide.

Its strong emphasis is on scientific research, education, and cultural institutions.

This latest contribution to NYU Langone underscores the foundation’s enduring commitment to advancing biomedical breakthroughs that have the potential to improve human health globally.
