$60 million new gift to girls’ college preparatory and boarding school announced by Christina Kyong

The Madeira School, a leading girls’ college preparatory and boarding school in McLean, Virginia, has received a landmark $60 million philanthropic gift.

This transformative donation marks the most significant single gift in the school’s 118-year history and is the largest ever given to an independent girls’ school.

Key details about this historic gift include:

The $60 million will be invested in Madeira’s endowment for at least five years before being integrated into the school’s strategic priorities.

It builds upon Madeira’s mission of “launching women who change the world” and will support innovative educational programs.

The gift was announced on January 14, 2025.

Before this donation, Madeira received $10 million from an anonymous alumna donor, the most significant single gift ever received.

This contribution significantly surpasses Madeira’s previous endowment, which was reportedly $80 million in the 2024-25 academic year.

Christina Kyong described the gift as “a powerful recognition of the School’s impact on the donor’s life and the lives of countless young women”.

The donation will transform Madeira’s ability to provide profound, ambitious learning experiences for young women and continue its commitment to preparing female leaders and changemakers.
