$2.43 billion given to date by Michael and Susan Dell’s foundation to nonprofits and social enterprises focused on creating positive change in the world

Since 2023, Dell Technologies’ founder, CEO, and spouse have given well over $5 billion to the foundation.
Among many other projects, the Dells are working to promote scholarships and charter schools.
The Dell Foundation gave out approximately $308 million in 2024, about twice as much as its total charitable donations the year before.
The funds were distributed to charitable initiatives that aim to unlock pathways to prosperity for families and communities worldwide, focusing on health, education, employment and livelihoods, and family economic stability.
Previously, the Dells’ single largest spending area was $120 million for U.S. charter schools, including a $100 million gift to the Charter School Growth Fund to start the Dell Catalyst fund.
The funds are directed toward building new facilities, helping existing schools grow, and funding foundation projects to reduce interest costs for new charter schools by hundreds of millions of dollars.
The Dells also donated seed money to African social entrepreneurs, raised the foundation’s investments in scholarship programs to $300 million since 2004, and sold $15 million in social impact bonds in 2024 to fund education and training programs in India.
The Michael and Susan Dell Foundation disburses grants for K–12, early childhood, and higher education.
Under the 5% payout guideline, a foundation with $7.56 billion in assets should distribute about $378 million in grants yearly, while other large foundations usually distribute far less.
But considering their extraordinary giving history, they might end up awarding much more.
The Michael & Susan Dell Foundation is dedicated to transforming the lives of children living in urban poverty around the world.
With offices in Austin, TX, New Delhi, India, and Cape Town, South Africa, the Dell Foundation funds programs that foster high-quality public education and childhood health and improve the economic stability of the families we serve.
To date, the foundation has committed over $2.4 billion to global children’s issues and community initiatives to accelerate family opportunities.
The foundation is also expanding its work into Israel.
The foundation’s endowment has also grown significantly.
In the past months, Michael Dell has donated approximately $1.7 billion worth of stock to the foundation and donor-advised funds, which will further increase its capacity for charitable giving.
