$100 million mark passed by Michael Jordan’s philanthropic giving with the opening of fourth free health clinic

Basketball legend and Hall of Famer Michael Jordan has opened his fourth free health clinic in North Carolina, continuing his impactful philanthropic partnership with Novant Health.

The newly launched Michael Jordan Family Medical Clinic in East Wilmington, funded by a $10 million donation from Jordan, aims to provide quality primary care to uninsured and underinsured residents.

The 7,300-square-foot facility features 12 patient rooms and operates on weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It marks Jordan’s longtime hometown’s second clinic and builds on the success of previous clinics in Wilmington and Charlotte.

The first Wilmington location, which opened less than a year ago, served nearly 1,800 patients in its first nine months, breaking down barriers to care such as transportation and financial constraints.

“It’s truly gratifying to know that in less than a year, our first Novant clinic in Wilmington has already made a meaningful impact,” said Jordan.

“Visiting Wilmington last year for the opening was incredibly moving and reinforced just how important access to quality healthcare is for the community.”

Born in Brooklyn but raised in Wilmington, Jordan has long maintained deep ties to North Carolina, where he won the 1982 NCAA championship with the University of North Carolina and later became a longtime stakeholder in the Charlotte Hornets.

Despite his international fame and billionaire status, he has remained committed to giving back to the state he calls home.

“We are profoundly grateful to Michael Jordan for his generosity and vision,” said Ernie Bovio, Novant Health’s Coastal Region president. “His support allows us to advance vital medical care and build strong relationships in underserved communities.”

Jordan’s philanthropic impact extends far beyond these clinics. Over the years, he has contributed well over $100 million to various causes, including educational equity, disaster relief, social justice initiatives, and children’s health.

He committed $100 million over 10 years to organizations promoting racial equality and social justice.

He has also donated majorly to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, Habitat for Humanity, and the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African American History and Culture.

From the hardwood to humanitarian efforts, Jordan continues to build a legacy that transcends sports, leveraging his wealth and influence to make a lasting difference in the lives of those most in need.
