For Stuart and Jennifer Zimmer, their renewed $100 million commitment to Harvard University is grounded in a personal connection spanning family, education, medicine, and Jewish life.
Zimmer, a 1991 graduate of Harvard College, has maintained close ties to the university throughout his life.
Two of the couple’s children also attended Harvard, where they were involved with Harvard Chabad, the Jewish campus organization that provides religious, cultural, and community programming for students.
The Zimmers have likewise opened their Florida home for Chabad fundraisers, supporting efforts to create gathering places and connections for Jewish students and families.
The family’s gift will expand kosher dining options at Harvard, including at Eliot House following its renovation—an investment that can make daily campus life more welcoming and accessible for observant students. It will also support programs that help Jewish students feel a deeper sense of community and belonging at the university.
Naming Harvard’s Science Center Zimmer Hall brings a particularly meaningful family legacy to the heart of campus.
The building will honor Zimmer’s late father, Dr. Alan Zimmer, a neuroradiologist whose work helped advance the development and clinical use of CT and MRI imaging in the United States.
The tribute reflects both a son’s appreciation for his father’s contributions to medicine and the family’s belief in the enduring public value of scientific discovery.
Zimmer has spoken warmly of Harvard President Alan Garber and Provost John Manning, highlighting their work for student well-being and civil rights.
The renewed commitment was announced during Harvard’s reunion festivities in June and drew lengthy applause from fellow alumni.
