$10 million gift to hospital from philanthropist Dick Wolf

Television producer and philanthropist Dick Wolf has committed $10 million to Mount Desert Island Hospital’s Building Our Future campaign, marking the largest individual gift in the hospital’s history.

The donation will accelerate construction of a modernized campus that includes a state-of-the-art emergency department, upgraded surgical suites, and a reoriented Main Street entrance designed for easier access.

Wolf, the creator of the Law & Order, Chicago, and FBI franchises, emphasized his commitment to the community in announcing the gift.

“MDI Hospital is a cornerstone of this community,” he said. “I’m proud to help ensure that the people of Mount Desert Island and beyond have access to the best possible care, now, and for generations to come.”

Hospital president and CEO Chrissi Maguire described the contribution as transformational.

“This gift not only advances our vision for a modern, patient-centered campus, it inspires others to join us in building a healthier future for our island community,” she said.

Wolf, one of the most prolific figures in television history, has produced more than 2,500 hours of network programming and earned multiple Emmy Awards, a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and induction into the Television Academy Hall of Fame.

Beyond entertainment, he has long supported philanthropic initiatives in health, education, and the arts.
