$10 million gift from alumna Christina M. Dennis to business school aims to expand opportunity and nurture the next generation of transformative business leaders

NYU Stern’s bustling Paulson Auditorium foyer—one of the school’s most trafficked crossroads, where thousands of students, faculty, and alumni converge each day—has taken on a new name and an even more profound significance.

Following a $10 million gift from Christina M. Dennis, a distinguished alumna, trustee, and longtime champion of the school, the space has been officially rededicated as the Christina M. Dennis Lobby, a lasting symbol of her commitment to expanding access, elevating opportunity, and nurturing the next generation of transformative business leaders.

Dennis’s gift, announced this fall, represents one of the most significant philanthropic investments in Stern’s history. Far from a simple act of generosity, it is an extension of a lifetime philosophy shaped by her own journey.

This story began decades ago when she arrived at NYU as a scholarship recipient.

The financial support eased the burden of tuition, but for Dennis, what resonated just as powerfully was the knowledge that somewhere, someone believed in her potential.

That early vote of confidence, she often recalls, helped chart her course in the world of finance and shaped her enduring conviction that possibility expands when institutions choose to place trust in young people.

Her $10 million commitment will enable Stern to widen the doors of opportunity for students from all backgrounds, allowing the school to expand scholarship support and empower the most talented minds—regardless of circumstance—to fully immerse themselves in all that Stern has to offer.

The gift also provides crucial resources for strengthening the school’s core teaching and research, grounding its ambitions in the kind of intellectual rigor and innovation that define Stern’s identity.

In addition, Dennis’s investment helps reimagine the very spaces and technologies that knit together the Stern community, creating an environment where ideas meet collaboration and where learning is designed to flourish.

During the October ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrating the newly named lobby, NYU President Linda Mills opened the event with words of gratitude for Dennis’s longstanding dedication to the University.

Evan Chesler, Chair of the NYU Trustees, and NYU Stern Dean Bharat Anand followed, each underscoring the magnitude of her support and the example she continues to set for the broader community.

Anand described her as a “role model in every sense of the word,” noting the many ways in which she shares her time, expertise, and generosity to advance the school’s mission.

Her latest gift, he said, deepens that legacy—one built on strengthening ideas, inspiring collaborations, and nurturing a culture that thrives on community.

Dennis’s career trajectory mirrors the determination and vision she hopes to inspire in the students who walk through the lobby now bearing her name. She began in finance at Merrill Lynch before becoming a founding partner and head of trading at Palantir Capital, a technology hedge fund.

Her professional accomplishments ultimately evolved into a new form of leadership: philanthropy.

Since 2002, through the Christina Dennis Foundation, she has directed her energies toward social services, animal welfare, and education—fields where compassion and impact intersect.

Education, in particular, remains deeply personal to her, and her support for Stern stands among her highest priorities.

Standing at the ceremony marking the dedication of the lobby, Dennis spoke with characteristic humility about her motivation.

“I am a scholarship recipient and have always felt that I benefited not only from the financial support but also from knowing that someone believed in me,” she said.

“I hope to inspire others with the belief that the impossible is possible.”

Her words echoed the ethos that has guided her philanthropy: the idea that opportunity, once given, multiplies.

Members of the NYU Trustees, Stern Executive Board, Alumni Council, Stern Women’s Forum, students, faculty, and friends of the school filled the space for the celebration—an event not just of gratitude, but of recognition.

For many in attendance, the moment embodied the spirit of Stern’s mission: a commitment to elevating possibility, widening access, and celebrating those who invest not only in institutions but also in people.

With her latest gift, Christina M. Dennis has affirmed her place among the school’s most influential supporters.

And now, as students pass daily through the lobby that bears her name, they are met with a reminder of what generosity can set in motion: a belief in potential, a path to opportunity, and the enduring impact of one alumna whose own journey began with the same kind of support she now passes forward.
